Internships

AFI will source a suitable organisation willing to provide and facilitate in-company & corporate training.

Let us know which area of expertise you would like to improve on and excel in so we can negotiate an internship agreement on your behalf,  with an appropriate company.

AFI also offers in conjunction with internships specific Business courses. These courses are run on a university campus which also provides accommodation in the summer months from May to August.

(These summer modules apply only to groups!)

Don’t wait any longer as the demand for these courses & venues is very high!

Put your name down now and book your course in order to ensure you can avail of an internship programme for next summer.

How do internships work?

Stage One

Trainees are interviewed via a virtual platform (Skype, Zoom etc.) by a member of AFI to ascertain their standard of English.

Candidates will spend an hour being questioned on various aspects of their personal life, educational background, reasons they are applying for an internship in Ireland, their preferred area of expertise and what they hope to gain from their corporate training and whole experience. They should therefore, get familiar with the vocabulary relevant to these lines of questioning. Then each applicant will be briefed on the options available to them and the potential industry that fits their profile.

We will go through interview techniques and the do's and don’ts in relation to the interview approach.

At the end of the introduction & presentation meeting, we can do a mock interview to practise and prepare for the real company interview.

Once the appropriate company has been identified, we will set up a virtual interview for the trainee and the organisation.

The interview will last approximately half an hour.

Each individual is expected to dress accordingly. In Ireland, men and women usually wear a suit to look business like. Etiquette must be respected at all times.

Number of days training and business classes

Given the impact Covid has had on businesses overall, companies will offer 2 full unpaid days in-company training per week. Business hours are usually from 9am until 5pm with one hour for lunch and a coffee break in the morning and afternoon. Terms and conditions will be outlined to employee

prior to his/her engagement.

Trainees will attend a business course run over 3 mornings per week. Each class will last 45 minutes with 4 classes and intermittent breaks per morning.

AFI will run a written & oral examination at the end of the course to assess standards and progress.
